Fender Telecaster I've had this guitar since 1990. I bought it new from a music shop in Newcastle with insurance money that I received, having had my 2 other guitars (Epiphone Rivoli bass guitar, 1963 model, and Shergold Meteor 1980 model) stolen from outside "The Rag Doll" public house after a Sunday lunchtime gig. It's a Japanese model and it's made pretty well, although the scratch plate and the electric's are a bit dodgy! This guitar has been my friend and companion at a zillion gigs and is perfect for playing country (that's what it was designed for), rock, or pop music. I always use "Ernie Ball" lightweight strings (ultra-light break too easy) and it's got a great sound, as it's well worn in though it still looks good!
For the recordings, I played it through my Fender Deluxe 112 combo amp, miked-up to the mixer with a Shure SM78 microphone, which I use at gigs, and also used, for the vocals - versatile mike!

EKO Ranger 6. I've owned this acoustic guitar since 1978, it's got a great tone to it and I love playing and singing with this one. I've written tons of songs using this guitar and it's travelled with me all over the world. I tend to use Tanglewood medium gauge strings with this guitar. The only "fault" with this little darlin - is that it's not so good for playing bar chords as the bridge is too high. Played at the top end of the neck is fine though - a good guitar for picking and plucking! For the recordings I miked it up through the mixer using the Shure SM78.

Yamaha FG 411 S. This is my "latest edition"; I bought this acoustic guitar in 1998. Unlike the EKO Ranger 6, it's perfect for playing bar chords and is a very versatile guitar. It plays more like an electric guitar; it has a narrower and longer neck and is very light - in weight and sound. It lacks the depth of tone that the EKO has, but is very good for writing and recording and I'm glad I bought it. I also use Tanglewood guitar strings on this guitar (medium gauge). For the recordings I miked it up through the mixer using the Shure SM78.

KORG TRINITY Music Workstation DRS. Everything you hear on my albums (apart from the guitar and vocals) come from this amazing machine. The bass, the drums, banjo, pedalsteel, fiddle, orchestra......everything! Of course I play all the notes, programme the drums etc, but all of the sounds come from the Trinity. Now don't misunderstand these keyboards. You cannot tell it to do anything automatically - there are no pre-sets. Every single beat of the drum has to be written and programmed by yours truly. Every note of bass has to be played, the strings have to be arranged, every nuance is mine, there are no "short cuts" or "cheats"; no loops or samples used. All those amazing sounds come from this incredible machine. It's better than having a music shop or an orchestra at your disposal. As long as you can play the keyboards, and you have a good understanding of musical arrangements you can't go far wrong. The tracks were recorded on Steinberg Cubase in midi format and then mixed down as audio through the mixer on to my Sharp mini disc deck MD R2. I love this keyboard dearly - what more can I say?
